Why you should advertise via the Internet Why you should be seen on the Web When making a buying decision consumers obtain information from many sources They ask, they are told, they read, they listen, they watch, they search. Behaviour as relevant today as it was hundreds of years ago We live in a community of people who shop locally, if you are in business and want their support, it pays to advertise where they look for information. Consumers use the Web to find information about local businesses, They want the find plumbers in Wanganui. The address or phone number of a Wanganui solicitor or lawyer. Wanganui auto wreckers, car sales, spray painters. Can they buy a container, where are the storage facilities, who do I contact. The Web is the one place they can go to find information 24 hours a day 7 days a week In 1945 Dr.Vannevar Bush the Director of the Office of Scientific Research and Development presented a paper titled "As We May Think". His paper traced the development of mankind, the achievements, the knowledge gained and how much knowledge of the past had been lost because we lacked the means to effectively record, store and communicate. His paper called for a new relationship between the thinking man and the sum of our knowledge. Sixty plus years ago the seeds for the Internet were sown, then in the late sixties the Internet became a reality. In 1990 the protocols and language for the Web were developed and in 1995 the first commercially produced browser was released and the world was changed forever New Zealanders as individuals are great users of the Internet, they search the Web for the information they require, they are not limited to and by other media. They now have a world of choice. But what can they find online, has the New Zealand business community kept up with the change The consumers, what can they find at the local level? Yes, people search on the Internet to find information from local businesses. The who, the what, the where and how. The things consumers have always wanted to know. If consumer buying behaviour is changing, shouldn't businesses change also. Even Telecom recognised the trend and sold the Yellow Pages print directories. The world has changed. More people use the Internet than the back of a telephone book. Take the time and give the consumer the information they require.
