Preaching to the Converted
When I hear the words from a large or small company, retailer or business "Our customers don't use the Internet" I wonder if this is really the case or a recognition of, we don't really know so we will stay with what we do know. To say "our customers don't use the Internet" is to have complete knowledge of the media the customers' use, which is really quite silly. Any business person that can say categorically, we know the media preferences of all the people who walk into our shop or contact us, is an all seeing genius and very few of us can lay claim to this. Very few people today are unable to read or listen to the radio or watch television, very few people today are not connected to the Internet and use the Web or Mobile phones and this includes the people owning, operating or managing a business The Internet, the Web the Newspapers, the Radio, the Television, the Mobile Phone are all are media channels, all channels of communication. All enable the person in business to get their message out. So why is there the problem that gives rise to the statement "our customers don't use the Internet?" Is it education or a story of two societies, not one of have and have-nots, but of a section of society that refuses to learn and so is destined to become illiterate? (Alvin Toffler) One society learns and goes forward, the other fades. Throughout history, there are records of towns, cities, countries, businesses and people that enjoyed wealth and prominence only to lose it as the world around them changed. Today is no exception, the Internet, the Web, the Mobile phones are but tools and any person in business who states our customers do not use the Internet therefore we won't, declare their future The tools exist and if used correctly a future in the 21st century presents itself. But in writing this I am preaching to the converted as they are the only ones reading, the others are still doing business like they did in the 20th century. Contact Firstsearch |
