Brand Awareness

What is Brand Awareness and has the changing market with its myriad of advertising channels altered our view of what we consider is brand awareness.

Take the word "Brand" I suppose it is a corruption of the word branded, to mark, to be noticed, as in an entity wishes to be known or to stand out. And awareness, to create in a persons mind, a perception of why and what the "Brand" means, the entity conveys a picture of who and what they stand for.

All businesses strive to be a brand, it is what sets them apart from competitors, this was easy in the old days of advertising in Print Radio and Television. The advertising agencies and PR departments carefully crafted the advertising to suit the image the company wished to portray. And a perception was created in the potential purchasers mind leading hopefully to profitably sales.

Print Radio Television PR gave Brand Awareness

But today and in the future how will businesses and companies gain "Brand Awareness", what they stand for and what they wish to be known for. Their potential customers are no longer captive to Print, Radio, Television and the PR departments.

By way of example, the four or five major banks, all sound and good, each have a certain persona, courtesy of brand awareness advertising. But are they on the Social Networking Sites or using the Social Media, (this I don't know)

But if they are I am not aware, they have no "Brand Awareness" out in the new market place. And what about all the other businesses and companies tied to the old way of reaching the potential customer, how do we know that they exist.

Maybe the days of the advertising agencies are coming to a close. New tools, new methods will be required to attract, to make aware, the potential customers now on-line.

Brand Awareness takes on a whole new meaning. Before a business can claim brand awareness, potential customers will have to be aware of the brand
