Thoughts about the 4th Media The Web
There are four media: Print, Radio, TV and the Web. Which one did you forget to advertise on. Each has its own audience. The Web is not going to go away. Open your eyes, suck in a big breath. Now that didn't hurt did it. You may not use the Web but your customers do It is not case of will you advertise on the Web but a case of when The Internet will bring about the most rapid sociological change in history. Its like standing with your feet in a puddle while you watch a tsunami coming your way. It's not a question of if you're going to get wet, but rather, when If consumer behaviour is changing, don't you think business marketing should change also. To Website owners: Don't expect the search engines to be friendly to you, if your website is not friendly to them To the Big Brands: Don't expect your "big brand name" to carry you on the Internet, there you have the same standing, command the same respect, are at the same level as the local mom and pop store. That is why they can probably out- sell you. What do you mean is it too new to worry about: The seeds were sown in 1945, the Internet arrived in 1970, the Web in 1990. What have you done for the last 17 years. You cannot buy a website out of a box, put it up, sit back and expect to make a million. A website is a constant "work in progress" The Internet is not the Web and the Web is not the Internet, they are two entirely different things. The Internet is the road (a pipe), it allows vehicles such as a webpage (website) to move along from a server to a browser on a computer (be seen by a searcher) Therefore if you want your website to be seen, it must be roadworthy (built and maintained to an acceptable standard) A collection of thoughts, the world is changing. Originally published in 2007, now we have the Social Media and its effect will be far reaching, there is no way back. Adapt |
