It is all a matter of perception
Many in business think / consider / have an opinion that a website advertises a business This kind of thinking is not valid; a website is part of the business and as such, has to be advertised to attract customers. To expand; it is not uncommon for owners, ceo's, boards of directors and even marketing managers to look at the companies website, compare it with the opposition and pass comment, that looks nice, don't like what the opposition has done to their pages, can we change ours so it is better than theirs. All they are looking at is wallpaper, pretty pictures, with no thought as to whether the website meets the needs of the buying public or even can the site be found in the search engines. Because they can see their company website does not mean every one else can. All that is going through their minds is, we have a website, we can see it and that is all we need to drive business. Taking the view that a website is part of the business, should cause them to think, how can we get people to our business, which means they will have to design more than pretty pictures. They will have to consider making the site acceptable to the buying public. Designing more than wallpaper, designing a website with thought to optimizing for the search engines, which is more than putting in a few meta tags. Having knowledge of how people view pages, what navigation is the best and do the pages pass a usability test. When they start to think about these and other matters, then they will gain an appreciation of what a website is. Change the perception, the way of thinking and the ways and means to build a business take on a new perspective. Online marketing is different from off-line marketing, primarily in that you have to promote the very tool (your website) you use as a promotion for your business. Contact Us |
